The outdoors call me.
Especially on a breezy afternoon like today,
or in the evenings when nothing but the sound of children playing
and laughter wander through the open windows.
Yesterday I could do nothing but answer and spend time
outside playing hopscotch and mancala with Sadie outside.
Kylie and Caleb were chalking up the sidewalk.
Micah wandered and explored as he usually does uttering a grunt
every now and then when he saw a bird or needed some help.
Micah now knows where the red raspberry plants are and how to help himself.
This opportunity for a photo was too cute to pass up.
Then it happened, the distraction came and we all banded together
to enjoy the treat God put in our backyard.
Kylie discovered a cicada on the sidewalk.
A brown encrusted one as seen above.
It happened to get bumped over into the chalk and
was then marked. Cicada was then placed at the base of a tree
and he or she walked up the tree and we could see it because
it was marked with chalk. The biologist in Allie took over and
she and the kids began looking everywhere for them, and they found many.
The cicada came out of it's exoskeleton and we got to watch.
It hung out there until dark and as we were waiting for it to move,
we saw something else moving in the backyard.
SKUNKS!!
Now we had skunks last year, a family of 4 babies and a Mama.
This year there are at least 6 babies and 2 parents.
They were desiring the wonderful treats they dig up in our
backyard and didn't seem frightened off by us unless
we clapped and scared them off.
They kept coming around until we came in at 11 o'clock at night.
I soaked in the light of the full moon with Allie and we chatted sitting
by the fire covered in a blanket. We were goofy and thankful
for such good times in the backyard.
Here are some daytime treasures in or from the backyard.
